Analyzing a Blog

I chose to analyze a blog titled "Just One Single's Blog." The writer of this blog titled herself Phantom Student. She never actually tells the audience her real name. The blog was very interesting. She discusses how she is single and feels as if she will never find the right guy. She also discusses her divorce and how she learned to cope with her pain. Many women can relate to this even if they are not single. I think she is targeting lonely women who need advice on relationships or lack there of.
There was much personal information about the writer on this page. She often talks about her personal problems with men, and how she cannot seem to keep them around. She also talks about self-esteem issues. In some ways she seems almost desperate to just have a man to talk to and to love, but hey who what single lady has not felt like that? The writer is anonymous, this signals to me that maybe she is embarrassed about these problems and does not want anyone who knows her to stumble upon her blog. She defines herself as a lonely, single woman who is seeking and giving advice to and from others in her own situation.
This particular blog is very appealing to many young women in the same situation. The writer assumes that the people reading her blog are in the same boat as her because she gives a lot of information about how she handles her situations, and expects advice back from the readers. If other women are in this situation, this site is very helpful. She gives self help books and other materials that she has read and puts some excerpts in for the audience. One aspect that draws readers in is they want answers to why they are single. Although, there is not just one answer to that question, we are all looking for it.
The content of this page is very aesthetically pleasing. It’s very girly with sometimes sad pictures, but other times there are very inspirational pictures. The writing style of this particular blog is very informal but not a lot of jargon. It almost takes the form of a diary/journal.
The point of "Just One Single's Blog" is to describe and explain why she is sad about being single and lonely. The message is very balanced because the writer shares her experiences with the audience, and other times she offers advice as hope for others. Ideologically, this blog would solve everyone's problems with being single, but not everyone's situation is the same so it does not work all of the time.

  1. I think that you need to tell us her name and the name of the blog.

  2. This article was very respectively written. At first it is hard to decipher what the woman who wrote this was trying to get out. The message was unclear until the explination in the second paragraph. Very good use of discriptive imaging. Plus it ended on a good note.
